A Holistic Approach to Tinnitus Management

If you suffer from tinnitus — such as ringing, buzzing or humming in the ears — you may have been told that “there is no cure for tinnitus”, that “nothing can be done”, or that you simply have to “live with it”.

At Ear & Hearing Australia in Reservoir, we take a different view. While there is often no simple surgical cure, tinnitus can often be effectively assessed and managed. We take a thorough, medical-style approach to understanding the possible causes of your tinnitus and identifying the most appropriate management options.

Our process includes psychoacoustic testing together with a comprehensive diagnostic hearing and tinnitus assessment to help identify contributing factors and guide treatment. Where appropriate, we then develop a personalised management plan to help you regain control and reduce the impact of tinnitus on your daily life.

This specialised service is provided at our independent Reservoir clinic, conveniently located near Reservoir Train Station at the Edwardes Street, near Reservoir Station.

Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, is a very common condition affecting approximately 1 in 4 Australians. Tinnitus often comes as a result of an underlying condition such as hearing loss, ear injuries, or problems with the circulatory system and often can be managed or helped with the treatment of the underlying condition.

I had ear microsuction by Roxana, the audiologist at the Melbourne branch. She was so professional and incredibly thorough and checked my ears like they’ve never been checked before. So impressed!

Hearing aids have put the smile back on my face. As a 97 year old I had accepted the isolation of not being able to hear. In fact, I was not convinced that hearing aids would be of any benefit to me but thanks to the persistence of my Audiologist at Ear & Hearing Australia, I can now say buying these hearing aids was the best decision I have made. Before I was fitted with these hearing aids, I was feeling very depressed as a result of not being able to join the family conversation. Since being fitted with my hearing aids, my life and that of my family have been transformed. I am now able to join in with all that is going on around me. I am thankful for the ongoing persistence and care shown to me by Ear & Hearing Australia. Thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can tinnitus be cured?
While there is often no single “cure” for the underlying cause of tinnitus, the symptoms can often be managed very effectively. Tinnitus is not a disease in itself, but a symptom that may be linked to hearing loss, noise exposure, ear wax, stress, or other medical conditions. With the right assessment, guidance, and management approach, many people find their tinnitus becomes far less bothersome.
What is the cost of a tinnitus assessment in Reservoir?
Our initial tinnitus assessment and consultation fee in Reservoir is $260. This is a detailed specialist appointment that includes a full history, examination, diagnostic hearing test, specialised tinnitus measurements, and counselling. Following the appointment, we provide a full report for your GP or ENT if required.
Can hearing aids help with tinnitus?
Yes. Hearing aids can often help reduce tinnitus, especially when it is linked to hearing loss. By amplifying speech and everyday environmental sounds, they help restore auditory input and often make the tinnitus less noticeable and less intrusive. Some devices also include tinnitus support features, such as sound therapy options.
What is included in a tinnitus assessment?
Our tinnitus assessment includes a comprehensive hearing test as well as specialised measurements of the frequency (pitch) and intensity (loudness) of your tinnitus. We may also measure your Minimum Masking Level (MML) to help guide the most appropriate tinnitus management approach.
Do I need a referral for a tinnitus assessment in Reservoir?
No. You can book a private tinnitus assessment at our Reservoir clinic without a referral. A GP referral is only required if you wish to claim an eligible Medicare rebate.
