Oticon Xceed 1 Hearing Aid review

The new Oticon Xceed is an excellent solution for those with a severe-to-profound hearing loss. It is powered by Oticon’s fastest and most advanced platform, the new Velox S™. Compared to their previous generation of powerful hearing aids it provides better speech clarity with less listening effort in noisy environments. Overall, I have received great feedback from my patients who have been very happy and more confident with this product. Firstly, the new Xceed product avoids old-school directional technology and provides the new Oticon open sound experience for the first time ever. By analysing the environment 100 times per second in 360º it aims to:

• Improve speech clarity.

• Reduced listening effort.

• Improve outcomes in noisy environments.

For audiologists these severe-to-profound cases can be the most difficult. One reason is Feedback (whistling noise) limiting the amount of gain that can be prescribed. Oticon Xceed has a new feedback management system (OpenSound Optimizer) which has been excellent at significantly reducing potential feedback. This in turn can allow for more gain and improved speech clarity for clients lacking optimal gain. The hearing aid is currently the world’s most powerful hearing aid providing the highest gain and output in the industry: 146 dB SPL MPO and 87 dB full-on gain. In combination, these features give the audiologist substantial flexibility when programming these aids.

Finally, the new essentials for hearing aid technology are present such as Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone App control. The product provides high-quality streaming of sound to both ears with a user-friendly App. Most importantly, the smartphone app allows for after-care service by their hearing care professionals from anywhere in the world. This saves going to a clinic when unable to do so or emergency situations.

The new Oticon Xceed completes a competitive hearing aid portfolio that comes highly recommended to trial.
